London run raises funds for Manipur's IDPS
Guwahati: Amid the 15-month-long crisis in Manipur, a London-based chartered accountant, Okram Bishwajit Singh, has exhibited an exemplary act of solicitude by raising funds to support the internally displaced women, especially widows, in his native state.
In his pursuit, Singh organised a run named “Charity Run for Manipur,” garnering significant support from the people, thus raising an amount of over Rs two lakh.
In the charity run held in London, Singh was joined by nearly 17,000 others, as they passed through some of the iconic landmarks of the metropolis.
The noble initiative not only celebrated the spirit of London but also highlighted the plight of the victims of the conflict in Manipur.
The amount raised from the charity run was equally distributed among the displaced women in the restive state taking refuge in different relief camps.
The internally displaced persons (IDPs) have been facing immense hardships ever since the violence erupted in the state on May 3, 2023.
Singh, hailing from the state’s Thoubal district, expressed gratitude to his parents and others, who visited the relief camps to distribute the money.
“I received the amount at a time when I needed it the most. It will help me immensely. It shows there are people who care for us and are willing to lend a helping hand in these testing times,” a woman in Imphal East district’s Sajiwa relief camp said.
Singh, while highlighting the need for government action, urged the authorities to take measures for the return of the IDPs to their respective homes.
His act of compassion is a testament to the enduring spirit of humanity, even in the face of adversity.
