Manipur: Man with disabilities beaten to death in Imphal, 2 held

Imphal: A 55-year-old man with disabilities died after being assaulted by two individuals at his residence at Langthabal in Manipur's Imphal West district, on Wednesday, according to police officials.

The man, identified as Nongthombam Ingocha, lived alone at the time of the incident. He was reportedly attacked at his residence around 2:00 PM on Wednesday.

Following the assault, local residents raised the alarm, and Ingocha was rushed to Raj Medicity Hospital in Imphal in a critical condition. However, he succumbed to his injuries while en route to the hospital.

The police have apprehended two individuals, Pukhrambam Robert (50) and Koijam Risikanta (50), both residents of the same locality, based on complaints filed by local residents.

"A case has been registered, and the two accused are currently in police custody for further investigation . The motive behind the attack is still under investigation," a police spokesperson stated.

A Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been formed in response to Ingocha's death. The JAC has strongly condemned the assault and has threatened various forms of protest in the coming days.
