Imphal: A large cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives were recovered in the synergized operations of the state and central forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts of Manipur during the past 36 hours, the police said.

Based on credible input regarding the presence of war-like stores, the joint teams launched operations at the foothills of Laiching Hill, Imphal East District, B Phainom in Thoubal district, and Koubru Ridge near Boljang of Kangpokpi districts.

The search at Pourabi village in Imphal East covering 150 houses and verification of 323 individuals, led to recovery of one SMG carbine, one 9 mm pistol, and two hand grenades.

In the general area, B Phainom, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police recovered one 81 mm Improvised Mortar, one Single Barrel Rifle, two grenades, ammunition, and other war-like stores.

One SLR with magazine, one 9 mm Pistol, 6 Hand Grenades, and ten 7.62 mm rounds were also recovered from Koubru Ridge near Boljang of Kangpokpi District.

The recovered items have been handed over to the concerned Police stations, the police added.
