Manipur: KYKL cadre held for extortion in Thoubal

Imphal: Security Forces apprehended a suspected member of proscribed Kanglei Yaol Kan-na Lup, (KYKL) from a hideout at Lilong Lou Tara in Thoubal, Manipur.

The arrested cadre has been identified as Md Amir Ahmad @ Fajaba (32). He was involved in extortion activities in the interdistricts of Imphal West and Thoubal in the past few months.

From his possession, one demand letter from KYKL was recovered.

The arrest and seizure were made in a cordon and search operation on Tuesday morning, a police source said.

After getting intelligence input that some armed individuals were trying to extort money from the residential locations of Lilong areas of Thoubal district, a joint team of the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police conducted the joint operation that led to his arrest.

The arrested person along with the recovered item has been handed over to the Lilong police for further legal proceedings, the police said on Wednesday.
