Imphal: Thousands of people from the Kuki-Zo community took to the streets of Kangpokpi district headquarters in crisis-hit Manipur on Thursday protesting against the alleged fake intelligence input regarding 900 Kuki militants entering India to launch attacks on Meitei villages on September 28.

Organised under the aegis of the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), an apex body of the Kuki-Zo tribes, the protestors marched through major thoroughfares of the town and submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah through Kangpokpi Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari.

CoTU spokesperson Ng. Lun Kipgen asserted that the alleged fake intelligence inputs regarding 900 Kuki militants entering Manipur from Myanmar are allegedly part of the periodic propaganda campaigns by the state government and the majority community.

Kipgen urged the Centre not to believe such narratives of the Manipur government.

Highlighting the Kuki-Zo community’s grievances, the memorandum urged immediate intervention of the Union government.

Some of the 10 points of the memorandum include protection of security institutions from political influence; put a halt on false propaganda against the Kuki-Zo community; reconsideration of the constitutional validity of Manipur Assembly and compliance and cooperation with the Union government.

The other key points include urgency of Suspension of Operations (SoO) negotiations; neutrality in security operations and immediate intervention of the Union government.
