Imphal: A suspected cadre of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party-Taibanganba (KCP-T) was among 167 individuals detained for interrogations in the search and cordon operations conducted at the vulnerable areas in the past 24 hours in Manipur.

A police report on Saturday states that the KCP-T cadre was arrested in extortion activities in the Lamphel areas of the Imphal West district during the past few months.

He was arrested along with a stolen four-wheeler vehicle, Rs 36,320 in cash and two mobiles.

He was later identified as Laishom Sundar Singh (38).

The arrested individual and confiscated items are now in police custody for legal actions, the report states.

The police report further stated that search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts.

Movement of 130 and 95 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2 respectively with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

A total of 100 checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur and Police detained 166 persons in connection with violations in various districts of the State, the report added.
