Imphal: Manipur's leading press bodies, the All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) and Editors Guild Manipur (EGM), strongly condemned the recent threat issued to a journalist by unidentified gunmen.

The incident occurred on Thursday night at the journalist's residence in Naoremthong Laishram Leikai, Imphal West district.

The targeted journalist, Khumanthem Dhanachandra, reports for a local evening newspaper and is supported by both AMWJU and EGM.

In response to this serious threat, Dhanachandra filed a complaint with the Lamphel police station on Friday.

Around 8:45 pm on Thursday, roughly ten unidentified individuals dressed in khaki combat attire and carrying advanced weaponry arrived at Dhanachandra's residence in four vehicles.

They terrorized his sisters with aggressive inquiries about his whereabouts, specifically referencing a recent news article published in his newspaper.

Following an emergency meeting at the Manipur Press Club on Friday, AMWJU and EGM submitted a memorandum to the state government. The memorandum urges swift action from the authorities within the next five days.
