Imphal: An investigation is underway following a scuffle among India Reserve Battalion (IRB) trainees from Manipur during dinner distribution at the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, Assam, on Saturday.

Following the incident, Manipur Police deployed senior IPS officer M Pradip Singh to assess the situation and determine the cause of the altercation.

The Assam Police confirmed the scuffle but assured that the matter is resolved and senior officials are attending to the recruits.

Over 2,000 IRB trainees from Manipur are currently undergoing training at four centres across Assam, with the one in Dergaon designated as BTC.

Manipur Police announced the investigation on their social media platforms, stating that they are "monitoring the matter on a real-time basis" and the situation is currently under control.

A clash erupted between two groups of Manipur Police trainees at the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy at Dergaon in Assam’s Golaghat district on Saturday night, leaving seven injured.

The incident began with a verbal altercation between two trainees, allegedly sparked by one bringing liquor into the academy premises. This escalated into a physical confrontation, injuring several others.

Seven trainees received medical attention, with three requiring treatment at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital. The remaining four were treated and released from a local hospital.

Assam Police DGP GP Singh confirmed the incident, saying that the scuffle at the Police Academy took place amongst young trainees from Manipur.

“They’ve been briefed in no uncertain terms to follow instructions and protocols of training institute from drill to discipline to decorum. No scope would be presented to anyone to deviate from the principles that guide training in our Academy", he said.
