Imphal: A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army was abducted from his residence in Manipur's Thoubal district on Friday while on leave.

The unidentified miscreants arrived in three vehicles - a red Bolero, a silver/white Bolero, and another car - and took JCO Konsam Kheda Singh away around 9:00 am.

Security forces, including the Indian Army and Manipur Police, immediately launched a coordinated search operation. Their swift action resulted in the safe rescue of JCO Singh by 6:30 pm on the same day.

He is under police protection at Waikhong Police Station (near Kakching) in Thoubal district. Manipur police are investigating the incident.

This abduction marks the fourth such incident since ethnic clashes erupted in Manipur last year.

While the motive remains unclear, initial reports suggest a possible link to extortion, as Singh's family had faced similar threats in the past.
