Guwahati: The Indian Army has conducted two significant tree plantation drives in Manipur to commemorate the ‘Rajat Jayanti’ (silver jubilee) of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ and in alignment with the ecological awareness under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.

A tree plantation drive was organised at the Leimakhong Military Station in the state's Kangpokpi district in order to enhance the greenery and biodiversity in the military station and its surrounding areas.

The plantation initiatives were also aimed at combating global warming and encouraging the growth of flora and fauna in the area.

Approximately, 100 saplings of fruit-bearing trees and shady and ornamental trees were planted in the environmental park and the Amrit Sarovar area.

Another plantation drive was conducted across the Bishnupur district where a total of 1,335 saplings were planted by the Army personnel along with locals from various villages, including Haotak, Saiton, Kumbi, Phougakchau, Torbung and Ningthiching.

The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative aims to enrich the environment and inspire a culture of ecological awareness among the wider local community.

The initiative reflects the Indian Army’s commitment towards environmental conservation, promotion of green practices and the fight against climate change.
