Through the centre, Athletes can access information about successful sportspersons from the state, their achievements, and various government schemes promoting athlete welfare.

Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Singh, himself a former football player, highlighted the centre's significance.

He mentioned that the MMSDC was named after legendary Manipuri bodybuilder Nongthombam Maipak Singh in recognition of his achievements, including winning the Mr India title in 1970 and securing the 10th position at the Mr Universe competition in 1971.
