Manipur: Huge cache of weapons seized in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi

Huge cache of weapons seized in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi.

Imphal: The Manipur Police along with the Indian Army recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives at the hotspots of Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts predominantly inhabited by the tribal people, the police said.

The seizures were made during the past 48 hours although no one has been arrested in the operations.

Acting on specific intelligence of the presence of arms and ammunition near Mashem River in the general area of Phoisanbung village, Churachandpur, District (Manipur), Assam Rifles, BSF, and Manipur Police launched a Joint Cordon and Search Operation.

A detailed joint search of the general area was conducted, resulting in the recovery of one M-16 Rifle, one 9mm Pistol, four grenades, one Single Barrel Rifle, and one Improvised Long Range Mortar and war-like stores.

In another raid, the joint team seized eleven SBBL Guns, one 9 mm Pistol with Magazine, three Improvised Heavy Mortar Pumpi Guns, four Improvised Heavy Mortar (Pumpi) Bombs, and seventeen rounds of 7.62 mm Ammunition (Sniper) from Churachandpur District.

Search operations and area domination were conducted in the vulnerable areas of Kangpokpi districts.

During the operations, the following items were recovered: one 5.56mm US Made M-16 Assault Rifle, one 5.56mm M-16 Assault Rifle Magazine, one 12-inch Single Bore Barrel Gun, one No. 36 HE Hand Grenade w/o detonator, thirty-three Single Bore Live Cartridges, five Fired Single Bore Cartridge Cases, six 5.56mm Live Rounds, one Combat Pouch, one Sling Bag and one Ammunition Waist Belt.

All the seized items were handed over to the concerned police stations, the police added.
