Imphal: A large, mature eucalyptus tree that stood sentinel along the historic Kangla moat in Imphal, Manipur succumbed to the elements on Sunday afternoon, disrupting traffic for roughly an hour.

The incident occurred around 12:20 pm when the approximately 60-foot tall tree, estimated to be over half a century old, uprooted from its position on Kangla Park Road.

Responding swiftly to reports of the accident, a team of police from the surrounding area joined forces with Imphal Municipality Corporation staff. They arrived at the scene equipped with a JCB excavator and promptly began clearing the obstruction.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident. However, some damage was sustained to a portion of the steel frame lining the Kangla moat garden along the roadside.

Traffic flow was significantly impacted until the uprooted tree and its branches were removed from the roadway.
