Manipur govt. launches ‘Skilling and Livelihood Programme’ to empower youth
Imphal: Aiming to rebuild the lives of thousands of youths and achieve a dignified livelihood through productive participation in rebuilding a moribund economy, a scheme was launched in this ethnic violence-hit state on Friday.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh launched the ‘Skilling and Livelihood Programme’ organised by the Department of Horticulture & Conservation, Manipur at the City Convention Centre, Imphal.
The skilling and development programme had been taken up to empower the youths who are committed to rebuilding their lives and achieving a dignified livelihood through productive participation in rebuilding our economy, which has been badly affected by the unprecedented crisis in the state, the CM said.
It aims to synergise and leverage the strength of existing skilling and livelihood schemes offered by different Departments.
By converging these schemes under one nodal department, will ensure streamlined implementation, efficient resource allocation and a wider range of skilling opportunities for targeted youths.
Further, the objectives of the programme are skill development, livelihood generation, holistic support, and economic revival among others.
The programme was followed by a technical session.
In the technical session resource persons deliberated on certain topics including Opportunities and benefits of animal husbandry as a means of reviving the livelihood activities of the youths, the scope of fish farming as a means of income generation for the youths, methods of composting and vermin-composting, mushroom cultivation, means of income generation for the unemployed youths and empowering youths through food processing in the state.
Agriculture Minister Thongam Biswajit, CAF & PD Minister L. Susindro Meitei, Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai, Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo, MLAs, senior Government officials, officials of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department and trainees also attended the programme among others.
In the ongoing communal violence, over 60, 000 individuals are seeking refuge at various camps across the state.
And government is making efforts to rebuild the lives of the thousands of youths affected by the violence.
