Imphal: The Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey convened a meeting with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, along with Chief Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi at Raj Bhavan on Thursday.

During the meeting, the Governor discussed the disappearance of Khangenbam Apamba Singh of Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai, Imphal West.

The Governor stressed the steps needed to trace out the missing person and to strengthen check posts in the fringe areas aiming to deter cross-over by the people of both sides through effective coordination among law enforcement agencies.

The Governor has taken up the initiative on the missing person(s) after Brigadier L. Ibotombi Singh along with three others called on her at Raj Bhavan earlier in the day.

These visitors apprised the governor about the disappearance of Khangenbam Apamba Singh of Tangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai, Imphal West, and requested to trace the missing person at the earliest possible time.

The team including the wife of the missing person submitted a memorandum to the Governor requesting to find out the whereabouts and rescue Apamba Singh who has been missing since April 19, 2024.

They said the missing person had crossed over Sekmai (as per CCTV footage) and gone towards Motbung in Kangpokpi district after having crossed the Red Zone check post at Shantipur(Sekmai) in Imphal West district.

They requested the Governor to issue necessary directions to the concerned authorities to find out the whereabouts of Apamba Singh rescue him and extend financial assistance to the family as he was the only bread earner of the family.

The Governor while listening to the details of the missing person, said she would instruct the concerned authorities to take steps to find out the whereabouts and rescue the missing person and assured the team to extend all possible assistance from Raj Bhavan and the government.

Notably, a total of 29 individuals remain on the missing list amidst the ongoing communal violence between the Kukis and Meiteis in the state that erupted on May 3, 2023.

Out of the 64 missing cases, the CM disclosed that 26 individuals were discovered deceased, while nine were successfully located alive.
