Imphal: Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey inaugurated “School on Wheels”, on Sunday at Bal Vidya Mandir Complex, Palace Compound in Imphal.

The initiative which is being implemented by Vidya Bharati Shiksha Vikash Samiti, Manipur, (VBSVS) aims to reach out to the students in the relief camps opened for the Internally Displaced persons owing to the ethnic violence that started on May 3, 2023, in the state.

The school bus has a library, computers, and sports items.

Along with a teacher, the school bus will visit relief camps in different places in the State.

The VBSVS is running 15 schools in 6 districts of Manipur state and 36 Sanskar Kendras in eight districts are also running as formal primary education and free education will be given to 150 displaced children of Moreh, Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Imphal East, Imphal West, Kangpokpi and Senapati districts.

Due to the efforts of the Education Development Committee, Manipur, free education is being provided in three schools, along with this, arrangements for accommodation, food, etc. of the students are being made by the organization, which is commendable and praiseworthy, Governor added.

Speaking at the inauguration function held at Sudarshan Hall, the Governor said the initiative that the Vidya Bharati Shiksha Vikash Samiti is implementing is a good initiative to reach out to the displaced students in the relief camps.

She said, the ethnic violence started on May 3, 2023, and affected thousands of people especially students in the state.

She continued that VBSVS has ensured that the children are not facing any kind of inconvenience and hence a scheme called School on Wheels is being implemented.

Such an initiative will help in reaching out to the displaced students staying in the relief camps.

The governor asked the Chief Secretary to take steps to extend support to the Samiti in enhancing the number of such buses.

Stating that she knows the pain and sorrow of the displaced people in the relief camps, the Governor said, she had instructed the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary to take steps to initiate a process for a permanent settlement for the displaced people in the relief camps.

Describing the role of the Samiti, the Governor said, the VBSVS started working in the field of education in the state of Manipur in the year 1979 under the name of Vidya Bharti Shiksha Vikas Samiti Manipur.

Chief Secretary, Dr. Vineet Joshi, Dr. Pawankumar Tiwari, Sanghthan Mantri, Vidya Bharati, Purvottar Kshetra, Yumnam Khogen Singh, President, Vidya Bharati Shiksha Vikash Samiti, Manipur, Vice-Chancellors of CAU, MUC, teachers, parents, and students attended among others in the function.
