Imphal: Fresh violence reportedly erupted in Imphal West, Manipur on Sunday afternoon, resulting in the tragic death of a 31-year-old woman.

The deceased was identified as Ngangom Ongbi Surbala Devi.

Her 6-year-old daughter was also injured in the incident.

The armed miscreants allegedly opened fire on Koutruk village, prompting retaliation from the India Reserve Battalion personnel.

The ongoing firing has affected multiple villages, including Koutruk Maning Hills, Singha, and Kadanban, which share a border with Kangpokpi district.

The woman was hit by a bullet while travelling with her daughter and succumbed to her injuries en route to the hospital.

Her daughter is receiving treatment for bullet injuries on her right hand.

This incident brings the total number of lives lost in the ongoing communal violence between two communities to 227, since the clashes began on May 3, 2023.

Additional security forces have been deployed to the area, with further details awaited.
