Manipur: Four arrested with arms & ammunition

IMPHAL: Four persons were apprehended in operations launched by the central and state forces in Manipur and a huge cache of arms, ammunition, and other war-like stores were recovered at different hideouts of the armed village volunteers across the state during the past 36 hours, officials said on Thursday.

Two persons namely Khullak Korungthang Dangshawa and Modar Maring, who were reported to be missing were apprehended with weapons by the Army at a location in Tengnoupal district bordering Myanmar. L

ater, they were handed over by Army personnel to Tengnoupal Police Station for necessary legal actions.

Their families and relatives have been informed about the same, an official report said.

Assam Rifles established a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) at a place in Kangching district and intercepted a white I20 car.

On thorough searching, two persons were nabbed along with one Pistol, one smoke grenade, and other war-like stores, the report said.

Acting on specific intelligence regarding the presence of arms and ammunition in the villages of Songpi and Thoroilok, in Churachabdpur district, security forces launched a cordon and search operation and recovered one 9mm Pistol, one Pt 303 Rifle, one 12mm Bore gun, one improvised Mortar two 9mm Carbine Machine guns, one Shotgun, one Point 22 Automatic Rifle, one 9mm Pistol, nine Single Barrel Rifles, two Improvised Mortars, ammunition and war like stores.

The arrested individuals, recovered weapons and an impounded car have been promptly handed over to Manipur police for further legal actions, the report added.
