Imphal: In a display of resilience and community spirit, locals and volunteers in Kshetrigao Awang village of Imphal East district in Manipur have joined forces to reconstruct the breached river bank following severe flooding that inundated over 300 houses in the area.

The breach occurred due to overflowing water, which resulted in extensive flooding and posed a threat to the livelihoods and safety of residents.

Sheikh Noorul Hassan, MLA of Kshetrigao in Manipur, expressed grave concern over the situation, stressing on the need for an urgent need for government intervention to prevent such incidents in the future.

“The water needs to be stopped else it will affect even more people. A proper survey and timely work should be done by the government so that this doesn't happen again,” MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan stated.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall in Manipur has worsened the flood situation in the Northeast state.

Personnel from the Army and Assam Rifles, along with the state police, Manipur Fire Service, NDRF, SDRF, and local volunteers, employed boats to rescue individuals affected by the floods.

Additionally, they provided packaged water bottles and food packets to those requiring assistance.

In the past 24 hours, floodwaters have destroyed hundreds of roads, bridges and houses across Manipur.

The Imphal River breached its banks at Singjamei Oinam Thingel in Imphal West, while the Kongba River flooded at Kongba Irong and areas of Keirao in Imphal East district of Manipur.
