Manipur film "Lembi Leima" shines at International Short Film Festival

Imphal: The Manipuri short film "Lembi Leima" continues its triumphant journey, adding another feather to its cap.

At the recently concluded 4th edition of the Empty Space International Short Film Festival 2024, the film's lead actress, Bala Hijam Nigthoujam, was honored with the Best Actress award.

Produced under the banners Cicada Film Production and RJ Star Production, "Lembi Leima" is directed by Mayank Pratap Singh. In addition to Nigthoujam, the film stars Bijou Thaangjam, Naveen Jagbir Sandhu, Khonykar Khuraijam, and Niranjoy Luwangcha.

The film, which served as the opening act for the festival, has now garnered a total of 45 awards at various international, national, and regional film festivals. This latest recognition further solidifies its critical acclaim and Bala Hijam's exceptional performance.

Previously, "Lembi Leima" won the Best Film (Gold) at the first Northeast Film Festival, Mumbai 2023, and has also been awarded the Best Indian Short Film, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actor at the Sitannavasal International Film Festival 2022.  

The film's world premiere took place at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, Australia. It has also been screened at the first Northeast India International Film Festival, Dimapur, Nagaland, where it bagged the Best Regional Film, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actor awards.

Bala Hijam Nigthoujam expressed her gratitude for the latest recognition, highlighting the film's continued success and the positive impact it has had on the Manipuri film industry.
