Imphal: Consignment of indigenous products outside the state resumed on Friday after halting its trading for around a year owing to the ethnic violence in this strife state.

The consignment of five metric tonnes of dry organic turmeric flakes by the Economic and Resource Development Organisation (ERDO) in the presence of Manipur Organic Mission Agency, (MOMA) to Daman (Andaman Island) and Mumbai was flagged off on Friday.

Turmeric has the great market potential both domestically and abroad.

It can be sold raw or processed like a dry flake or powder.

The Assistant Project Officer, Ngangom Vishal, MOMA and president of the ERDO Takhellambam Sanajaoba flagged off the truckloads of turmeric at a function held at Mantripukhri in Imphal west district on Friday morning.

Speaking on the occasion, Ngangom Vishal said that these spice items are produced by the company’s farmers in the districts of Ukhrul, and Noney.

Takhellambam Sanajaoba also stated that Manipur’s indigenous ginger demands much from other parts of the country.

A total of 6 MT of dry ginger would also be exported from Manipur to other states within four days.

Imphal, the capital of Manipur, used to export 2,000 tonnes of dry turmeric annually.

However, ethnic conflict in 2023 led to a loss of about Rs 40 crore in exports.
