Manipur: Dengue epidemic surges, 5 deaths with 1,828 cases reported

Guwahati: Manipur has recorded 5 deaths from a resurgence of the dengue epidemic, along with 1,828 cases as of Thursday.

This is an increased trend of viral infection spread by the bite of (an infected Aedes) mosquito. 

As of October 16, 2024, there were 4 cases of deaths and 1,459 cases of vector-borne disease. 

In 2021, Manipur reported only 203 cases of dengue. Surprisingly, the deadly dengue is still untouched in 3 districts - Jiribam, Pherzawl, and Tengnoupal out of the 16 districts in the state.

As per reports from the Directorate of Health Services, 45 new cases have been reported on Thursday

Imphal West has reported 1290 dengue cases with four fatalities, Imphal East 369 cases, Bishnupur 57 cases with one death, Thoubal 48 cases, Kakching 26 cases, Churachandpur 14, Kangpokpi nine cases', Ukhrul and Chandel four each, Noney three, Tamenglong two and Kamjong and Senapati one case each.

To combat the climbing dengue outbreak, the state health department has constituted a State Task Force with the state health secretary as chairman.

The task force will be responsible for coordinating the state's efforts to control vector-borne diseases, with a particular focus on dengue.
