Imphal: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president K Meghachandra Singh, who failed to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act 2002 (PMLA), expressed confusion over the summons to New Delhi.

As a sitting MLA elected from Wangkhem assembly constituency, Meghachandra told the media that Yairipok police station had delivered the summons letter to his Yairipok residence on October 3, but he received it only on Monday.

"I am neither a minister nor in a ruling position, so I am confused about why the ED sent me the summons letter," Meghachandra said, questioning the reason behind the summons.

The case relates to money laundering, but the specific case was not mentioned.

"Whether this is political vendetta or not, I do not know," Meghachandra added.

The summons was served under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. The notice requested Meghachandra to appear in person at the Assistant Director's office on October 7 at 10:30 am to provide evidence in connection with the PMLA investigations.

The notice warned, "Without prejudice to the provisions of any other law currently in force, if you fail to attend or produce the books of accounts or other documents as mentioned in the schedule at the specified place and time, you shall be liable to penal proceedings under PMLA."

Meanwhile, Jairam Ramesh addressed the issue on X (formerly Twitter), saying K. Meghachandra Singh has been speaking out fearlessly and aggressively against the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, Manipur Chief Minister, and the BJP, exposing how they have destroyed Manipur since May 2023.

"The MPCC president has received a summons from the ED. This is nothing but vendetta politics – vengeance, harassment, and revenge," Ramesh added.
