Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Saturday met with representatives of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and the Relief Committee to address their immediate needs and chart a path for long-term rehabilitation.

The meeting comes as the state government continues efforts to restore peace and order in conflict-affected areas.

CM Singh noted that while the security situation has improved in some regions, allowing many IDPs to return home, challenges persist. To bolster security, central forces are working alongside state police in vulnerable areas.

Currently, there are 59,564 IDPs from both the Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities seeking refuge in relief camps across Manipur.

The state cabinet has approved financial assistance of Rs. 1 lakh per household affected by the violence, with the first installment of Rs. 25,000 already disbursed to 2792 families.

Despite their displacement, IDPs joined the nation in celebrating Independence Day with patriotic fervor.

At the Moirang Relief Camp, residents took the Tiranga Pledge and sang the National Anthem, demonstrating their unwavering spirit and unity with the country.

CM Singh said that the government is committed to the welfare of all IDPs and is working diligently to create conditions for their safe and sustainable return to their homes.
