Imphal: Following days of relentless rainfall that caused severe flooding in Manipur’s valley districts, Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited the worst-hit areas of Keirao and Kshetrigao in Imphal East district on Friday.

Assessing the extent of the damage, Singh outlined the state government's dual strategy to address the immediate needs of flood-affected households and to reinforce vulnerable river embankments to prevent further overflows.

The incessant rains caused the Imphal, Kongba, and Iril Rivers to breach their embankments at nine locations across Imphal East and Imphal West districts, leading to widespread flooding.

Thousands of residents are currently enduring hardships in various relief camps.

During his visit, flood victims appealed to the Manipur Chief Minister for essential relief materials and the organization of medical camps to address health concerns arising from the floods.

This visit marks the second time in three days that Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh has toured flood-affected zones. Earlier, on Wednesday, he met with flood victims in Singjamei and surrounding areas in Imphal West district.

“The government is implementing a two-pronged strategy,” stated Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh.

"We are addressing the immediate needs of the affected households and simultaneously identifying and reinforcing vulnerable spots along the river embankments to prevent further breaches."
