Imphal: Manipur has carved a niche in preserving the cultural heritage and  65 state-protected monument sites, encompassing temples, inscriptions, and many more.

This was stated by  M. Joy Singh, Commissioner of Art and Culture while presiding over the commemoration function of World Heritage Day 2024.

Manipur University Central Museum (MU) in collaboration with Manipur State Archaeology of the Department of Art and Culture commemorated World Heritage Day-2024 under the theme “Discover and experience diversity” at the MU on Thursday.

Serves as a poignant reminder of our culturally rich past and in preserving our natural heritage not only for ourselves but also for future generations, Manipur state boasts 65 state-protected monument sites, encompassing temples, inscriptions, and more, says M. Joy Singh.

He emphasized the significance of World Heritage Day as a global celebration aimed at raising awareness about the remarkable cultural and natural sites listed under UNESCO's World Heritage List.

He also revealed that Manipur State Archeology is gearing up to include other significant sites like Kangla forth through upcoming initiatives.

The event ended with a photo exhibition, exhibiting items such as stone tools, pottery assemblage, terracotta objects, metal implements and ornaments, biomaterials, structural remains, etc, and a signature campaign was held with the statement, “I pledge to safeguard my heritage.”

Amongst the attendees were Sashikanta Sharma K., Superintendent of State Archaeology, and Dr. Ng. Jayshree Devi, Research Associate, Manipur University.
