Manipur: Businessman robbed of Rs. 1,70,000 at gunpoint

Imphal: A small-time businessman was robbed of Rs 1.7 lakh in cash at gunpoint at a location near Lambung in Manipur’s Chandel district, according to a police report on Wednesday.

The businessman later identified as Nongmaithem Arjun, 23 a resident of Kakching in Kakching district was waylaid by six persons who came on a white colour Bolero at around 6 pm on Monday.

The miscreants forcefully stopped the Maruti Gypsy, the businessman was driving and then one of them whipped out a small weapon and assaulted him.

They were demanding to hand over the money in his possession, according to a police complaint filed on Tuesday.

Nongmaithem Arjun belonging to a Meitei community was operating a small-time business at Chandel district headquarters.

He got married to a tribal woman from the same district.

Meanwhile, police said that a case has been registered and attempts are on to nab the looters.
