Guwahati: At least 19 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs in Manipur have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the removal of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

The MLAs also include Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyavrat Singh, Minister Thongam Vishwajit Singh, and Yumnam Khemchand Singh.

This move reportedly follows a meeting in Delhi that brought together Meitei, Kuki, and Naga MLAs, highlighting the deepening divisions within the state's ruling party.

The MLAs' letter expressed grave concerns about the BJP-led government's ability to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur, as well as alleviate the suffering of its citizens.

With constituents urging their representatives to resign if a solution is not forthcoming, the MLAs stressed their responsibility to protect both Manipur and the BJP from downfall.

The letter stated that removing Chief Minister Singh is the only viable solution to address the ongoing conflict between communities.
