Manipur BJP chief meets Amit Shah, discusses ethnic strife in Northeast state
New Delhi: In a bid to address the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur, BJP’s state president, A Sharda Devi, held an extensive discussion with union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday (June 27).
The meeting focused on the urgent need for a permanent resolution and restoration of peace in Manipur.
Devi stressed on the necessity for immediate central intervention to stabilize the situation in Manipur, which has been marred by violence between the hill-based Kuki-Zo people and the Imphal Valley-based Meiteis.
Manipur BJP president A Sharda Devi, after meeting Amit Shah said that she “conveyed the people's aspirations and urged immediate attention to bring permanent solution and tranquillity to the state, while appreciating the ongoing efforts”.
During the meeting, Devi also stressed the importance of resettling internally displaced persons (IDPs) and ensuring comprehensive support for their rehabilitation.

“Additionally, highlighted the need for resettling IDPs and providing maximum support for smooth rehabilitation,” she said.
Union home minister Amit Shah assured the Manipur BJP president that the central government is fully aware of the fragile situation in the Northeast state and is committed to addressing the concerns and aspirations of the people of Manipur.
“He assured that the Centre is aware of the delicate situation on the ground and committed to uplifting the people's aspirations,” said Manipur BJP chief A Sharda Devi.
It may be mentioned here that the ethnic violence in Manipur, which erupted in May last year, has claimed over 200 lives and displaced thousands.
