IMPHAL: Thousands of members of the Arambai Tengol, a Meitei radical organization in Manipur, clad in black attire, gathered to renewed their “commitment to safeguarding and preserving” the territorial integrity of the Northeast state.

Korounganba Khuman, the commander-in-chief of the Arambai Tengol, led the ceremony, where thousands of followers re-affirmed their vows on the occasion of the 133rd anniversary of the Khongjom War, Manipur’s final battle for independence.

Arambai Tengol activists paid tributes to the brave souls who sacrificed their lives in Manipur's last war of independence, known as the “Khongjom War”, fought against the British in 1891 to uphold freedom.

The historic battle took place at Khebaching in Thoubal district of Manipur.

The Arambai Tengol commander-in-chief emphasized that the organization refrains from commenting on the elections to the Manipur Lok Sabha seats.

While the first phase of elections for the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat concluded, the second phase for the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seat, reserved for scheduled tribes, is scheduled for April 26 in the state.
