Imphal: Following a series of recent drone and rocket propelled bomb attacks by Kuki militants targeting civilians in Manipur, the state government has deployed an advanced anti-drone system, "Dronaam," along vulnerable border areas.

The highly technical drone system was installed in strategic locations in the northern inter-districts of Imphal West and Kangpokpi. The move comes after a Manipuri housewife lost her life in a drone attack, said an official.

The "Dronaam" was handed over to the CRPF's drone handling experts in Imphal on Saturday. It is part of a broader strategy that includes the deployment of new, domestically developed integrated drone detection and interdiction systems (IDD & IS).

Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) K Kabib said a robust anti-drone system has been deployed to counter the militants' use of drones equipped with grenades to attack Meitei populations.

He also mentioned that the police are in the process of acquiring additional weapons to combat these attacks on civilians.

Meanwhile, residents in the outskirts of Imphal West, Bishnupur, Kakching, and Imphal East districts, which share borders with Kuki-dominated areas, have been turning off their lights at night following multiple drone sightings.

This precaution is in response to recent incidents where militants used drones to drop bombs on people in Koutruk and Kadangband, located in Imphal West district.
