Manipur: 50 acres of illegal poppy plantation destroyed
Imphal: In a significant step to fight against drug trafficking and illegal narcotics production, 50 acres of illegal poppy cultivated at Khamasom hill range of Manipur’s Ukhurl district near the Indo-Myanmar border were destroyed during the past 36 hours, officials said.
In an ambitious endeavor against opium poppy cultivation, Ukhrul has witnessed an unprecedented mobilization as the Manipur Police team Ukhrul, 6th Manipur Rifles, Forest Department and volunteers of several outfits embarked on a public movement to eradicate opium poppy plantations.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, in his X post shares, “Let us continue to work together to build a safer and drug-free society for our future generations.”
The eradication of approximately 50 acres of poppy cultivated areas at Khamasom hill range is a significant step in our fight against drug trafficking and illegal narcotics production, Manipur CM said.
This collaborative effort showcases our determination to uphold law and order and protect our communities from the scourge of drug abuse. Let us continue to work together to build a safer and drug-free society for our future generations, he added.
Spearheaded by a collaboration of Tangkhul Frontal organizations, Tangkhul Churches, and Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR), the drive has garnered significant support and fervent participation from community members and leaders alike.
