Imphal: Assam Rifles apprehended six individuals, including four women, in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district on Friday.

The smugglers were caught red-handed while attempting to transport a massive haul of areca nuts, valued at approximately Rs 2.5 crore, into India from Myanmar.

The operation, conducted under the supervision of the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South), took place near Machi and Khampang Khullen villages in Tengnoupal.

During routine patrols, Assam Rifles personnel stopped and searched suspicious vehicles, leading to the discovery of 28,200 kilograms of areca nuts.

The seized contraband has been handed over to the customs department for further investigation, while the arrested individuals have been detained by the local police.
