Imphal: In a major crackdown on armed elements in Manipur, a joint team of central and state police forces conducted extensive search and area domination operations on Thursday.

These operations led to the detention of 115 people, including women, and the recovery of a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives.

The joint team deployed 99 checkpoints across the state, both in the hills and valleys, and conducted thorough house-to-house searches.

One of the most significant hauls came from an abandoned camp at Bungbal Khullen in Imphal East, once occupied by armed miscreants.

The recovered weapons and explosives, believed to have been used in the ongoing ethnic violence, included a 9 mm pistol, a 60 mm heavy caliber launcher, a .177 rifle, a 12-bore double barrel rifle, a pumpi gun, a .32 pistol, hand grenades, a pumpi mortar shell, and a large quantity of ammunition.

While the detained individuals were later released, the seized items have been handed over to the Manipur Police for further investigation and disposal.

These operations mark a significant step in the ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in the troubled state.
