Lok Sabha polls: Manipur witnesses 68% voter turnout

Imphal: The Manipur Lok Sabha elections for the Inner and Outer seats witnessed a robust turnout, with approximately 68.62 percent of voters casting their ballots by 5 pm on Sunday.

Despite minor incidents, the elections were predominantly peaceful across the state, according to police sources.

In the Inner Manipur LS seat, voter turnout stood at 72.32%, while in the Outer Manipur LS seat reserved for scheduled tribes, 61.98% of electorates exercised their franchise.

Notably, Chandel district saw the highest voter participation with 85.81% in the Outer MLS seat, while the Saikul assembly constituency of Kangpokpi district recorded the lowest turnout at 19.46% in the Outer seat.

In the Inner Manipur seat, the Keirao assembly segment in Imphal East district recorded the highest voter turnout at 83.81%.

Despite previous violence, polling in the Churachandpur district concluded peacefully across its four Assembly segments, with a turnout of 72.42% reported at 5 PM, officials confirmed. The final percentage is expected to rise as polling personnel, EVMs, and security personnel reach different district headquarters.

Manipur boasts a total of 20,28,784 electors, including 9,89,887 voters for the Inner seat. Out of the 10,36,736 electors for the Outer constituency, 5,61,860 participated in the first phase elections held on Friday, while the remaining 13 Assembly segments of Outer Manipur PC are scheduled for the second phase on April 26. A total of 47 assembly segments went to polls on Friday.

With six candidates contesting in the Inner seat and four in the Outer seat, voting commenced at 7 am and concluded at 4 pm on Friday.
