Elderly voter hit by bullet at polling station in Manipur, three arrested
Imphal: An elderly man who came to cast his vote at a polling station sustained a bullet injury when an unknown armed miscreate opened fire at around 2 pm on Friday at Moirangkambpu under the Khurai assembly segment in Imphal East district.
Three persons reportedly involved in the shooting incident were arrested along with a small firearm and live bullets, the police said.
The elderly man received a bullet injury on his left chest when a group of miscreants disturbed the polling at Moirangkampu.
He was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The first phase of elections to the two Lok Sabha Seats in Manipur held on Friday witnessed disturbing violence among the voters and officials.
The reports of gun firings, destroying Electronic Voting Machines, and poll disturbances being made by the armed miscreants have been recorded at several locations in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency.
The poll violence and disturbance have occurred at Thamnapokpi, Iroisemba, Khongman Zone Five, and Moirangkambpu.
The arrested persons along with the seized weapon were handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action, the police said.
However, with the enforcement of additional security forces, the polling continued at the time of filing this report.
