Guwahati: The Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam, covering Karimganj and Hailakandi districts in the Barak Valley. The literacy rate of the constituency is 63.63 per cent.
Situated within the Karimganj district, it is a SC category parliament seat.
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the total electorate counts in the Karimganj Lok Sabha Constituency was 13,40,173 in 2019. The total number of valid vote count was 10,60,072 in the 2019 General Elections.
The Karimganj parliamentary constituency comprises seven Assembly segments, namely Ramkrishna Nagar (SC), Patharkandi, Karimganj North, Karimganj South, Hailakandi and Algapur-Katlicherra.
Notably, the BJP and the Congress are the predominant parties in this constituency from the beginning but in the last 10 years, AIUDF has also become a party to reckon with.
In the upcoming election, the BJP has nominated Kripanath Mallah, while the Congress has put forth Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhury as their candidate for the Silchar Lok Sabha Constituency. The AIUDF has selected Sahabul Islam Choudhury to contest the polls.

The BJP and the AIUDF were the main parties in the constituency in 2019.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Kripanath Mallah from BJP won the seat with a margin of 38,389 votes.
Kripanath Mallah got 473,046 votes with a vote share of 45.00 per cent and defeated Radheshyam Biswas from AIUDF who got 434,657 votes (40.96 per cent).
In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Radheshyam Biswas from AIUDF won the seat and got 362,866 votes with a vote share of 40.87 per cent.
BJP candidate Krishna Das got 260,772 votes (29.37 per cent) and was the runner-up Radheshyam Biswas who defeated Krishna Das by a margin of 102,094 votes.
