Thingbaijam Rusi Khuman, Superintendent of the State Excise Department, informed reporters that a total of 12,000 litres of various liquor brands, valued at approximately Rs 14.8 lakh, were crushed and buried.

These seized items were confiscated during operations conducted across 13 Excise stations in the state between March and April 2024.

Khuman explained that the department lacked sufficient cold storage and space to store the confiscated liquor, necessitating the disposal.

He added that the department's efficiency and achievements would improve significantly once it reaches its full staffing capacity. Currently, the department is operating with a skeleton staff of around 120 personnel, far below its sanctioned strength of 706.
