Imphal: The Indian security forces discovered a slew of weapons hidden at different hideouts of the armed miscreants operating in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts of this strife state in the past 36 hours, officials said on Wednesday.

In the southern part of Manipur’s Churachandpur (Hill) district at Zalenkot village,  the joint team of central and state police recovered one CMG (Carbine) with a magazine, four single barrel guns, one grenade launcher (lathod gun), one pistol with magazine, two improvised heavy mortars, two magazines, and ten tear gas shells.

In the northern parts of the state at the general area of Twichamphai and Motbung Villages, Kangpokpi (hill) District, security forces arrested three persons — Lunminthang Singsit (31), Paolenmang Samte (36) and Seiginlen Kipgen (30) from and recovered the 0.5 kg of explosives substance (gun powder) and two number of suspected explosive ammunition.

In the valley district of Bishnupur, the security forces recovered a column of the Mahar Regiment recovered three AK rifles (seven magazines and 210 ammunition), five INSAS (13 magazines and 260 ammunition), two SLRs (nine magazines and 180 ammunition, two hand grenades, bullet-proof jackets, and other items.

The arrested persons and recovered items have been handed over to the concerned police station for further proceedings, the officials added.
