Kolkata businessman missing for weeks found in Arunachal after alleged investment Scam

Guwahati: A businessman belonging to West Bengal's Kolkata who had been missing for over two weeks was found in Lower Dibang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday morning.

According to reports, the man identified as Noor Alam has been missing since April 5.

He reportedly went missing from Dibrugarh, reports stated.

After he went missing, the family approached the police and accordingly an investigation was launched. The police traced Alam in Arunachal's Dibang Valley.

His family stated that they received a Rs 1 crore ransom call for his release.

Based on the call, the police initiated the investigation and traced Noor Alam in Arunachal.

One person identified as Rakesh Singh who happens to be his aide was arrested.

Noor told the police that he had gone to Dibrugarh in Assam for some business and met Singh along with another person named Kumar.

Noor Alam was allegedly kidnapped by Rakesh and Kumar over a failed investment deal. Noor was told he could double a 70 lakh rupee investment the other two had made.

A meeting was arranged and Noor was taken to a hotel in Paltan Bazar. Here, it was agreed Noor would transfer 2 crore rupees via RTGS and Rakesh and Kumar would provide another 5 crore rupees in cash.

Noor was then taken to Arunachal Pradesh where he transferred the 2 crore rupees. However, 1 crore rupees was returned to the accused's account.

When Rakesh and Kumar did not provide the remaining cash, Noor was held captive. The police, with help from Arunachal Pradesh authorities, were able to locate Noor and are expected to return him to Kolkata soon.

Noor's family initially hid the kidnapping but filed a police report when negotiations failed. The police investigation suggests Noor may have been willing to go with the kidnappers initially.
