Guwahati: The Indian Army commemorated the ‘Rajat Jayanti’ (silver jubilee) of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ with a series of events across the Northeast states of Assam, Tripura, Nagaland and Manipur from July 20 to 26, 2024.

The events included honouring the bravery and sacrifice of the Kargil heroes, their families, and the spirit of patriotism and national pride among the people of the Northeast states.

In Manipur, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Red Shield Division Major General Sameer Sharan Kartikeya paid homage at the War Memorial in the state’s Leimakhong Military Station on Friday (July 26) paying floral tribute to the brave hearts who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty for the motherland.

A tree plantation drive, inaugurated by all ranks and families of the garrison, was held in the memory of the martyrs.

Display of army weapons and equipment gave an enthralling experience to the children and an Army band mesmerised the audience in the evening by laying some of the most melodious tunes filled with patriotic fervour.

Through art and craft competitions, the children got an opportunity to express their feelings and perceptions about the Kargil war.

A football tournament, held at Moirang in the state’s Bishnupur district of Manipur from July 23 to 26, further marked the celebrations.

Interaction and felicitation events with war veterans, ‘Veer Naaris’ and ‘Veer Matas’ were held at Senapati district and Imphal West district’s Phoubakchao village.

In Nagaland, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Zakhama Military Station in memory of the valour and sacrifice of the heroes of Operation Vijay, followed by the felicitation of veterans.

Assam celebrated the auspicious day by organising ‘A Day with Company Commander’ at the Kakopathar, Pengeri and Tipong Army camps in the state’s Tinsukia district.

The event included flag hoisting, team-building games and screening of a patriotic movie for the students, teachers, ex-Servicemen and ‘Veer Naris.’

Tributes were also paid to the parents of Kargil war Hero Captain Jintu Gogoi, Vir Chakra, (Posthumous), on July 19, 2024, at their residence in Golaghat district.

In Tripura’s state capital Agartala, the 25th anniversary of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ was commemorated with multiple events. A felicitation ceremony honouring 12 ‘Veer Naris’ and ‘Veer Matas’ was held on July 20.

A patriotic movie was screened and lectures on July 25 inspired the students of Kendriya Vidyalaya-1 GC CRPF, Delhi World Public School, Don Bosco School and Auxilium Girls School.

The campaign concluded on Friday with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Albert Ekka Park, where Army officials and dignitaries paid tribute to the brave hearts who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.

The events organised by the Indian Army fostered national pride and highlighted the Indian Army’s enduring legacy of courage and dedication.
