Shillong: The annual Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival, a unique celebration in Meghalaya, is set to bloom again this November with Japan as the partner country.

Beyond its musical lineup, the festival holds a special significance this year due to the Japanese collaboration.

Inspired by the striking resemblance between the cherry blossoms in Meghalaya and Japan, which was also noted by the Japanese Ambassador during a visit last year, the partnership aims to showcase Japanese culture and heritage through a dedicated stall at the festival.

The tradition of celebrating "Hanami" (cherry blossom viewing) dates back over a millennium in Japan, while the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival was first launched in 2016.

Notably, it is the world's first autumn cherry blossom festival, attracting tourists from across India and the globe.

The 2023 edition of the festival witnessed record-breaking participation, and this year's event is expected to be even more spectacular.

Under the theme "Year of Legends," the festival will feature iconic artists and cultural exchanges, promising a memorable experience for all attendees.

The festival will take place on November 15 and 16. On the first day, attendees will be treated to a legendary musical experience, including performances by Boney M as part of their Farewell Tour, the soulful Jasleen Royal, and international sensation Lucas.

The second day will be equally exciting, with Akon headlining his Superfan Tour. In addition to performances by Kanika Kapoor and others, local talents like Rito Riba, Queen Sensation, Khasi Bloodz, and various artists from the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project (MGMP) will also take the stage, ensuring a perfect blend of international and regional music.
