Shillong: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Flash Flood Risk (FFR) alert for several regions in Meghalaya and Assam due to heavy rainfall.

The alert, issued for Friday (June 14), warns of potential flash floods and surface runoff in the affected areas of Assam and Meghalaya.

According to an official statement from the Flash Flood Guidance Cell of IMD’s Hydromet Division, a low to moderate flash flood risk is anticipated in parts of East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, and Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya.

The statement highlighted that the risk is particularly high in fully saturated soils and low-lying areas, where inundation may occur.

The IMD's guidance also extends to Assam, where several districts including Baksa, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Hailakandi, Jorhat, Kamrup Metro, Kamrup Rural, Kokrajhar, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, NC Hills, Nalbari, and Udalguri are also at risk of flash floods.

Residents in these areas have been advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions to safeguard against potential flooding.
