North Lakhimpur: The Congress candidate for 12 Lakhimpur HPC Uday Sankar Hazarika has said that he was made a victim of a deep fake video created by people who had been scared of his increasing popularity.

He made this remark following the surfacing of an “obscene” video on Hazarika getting circulated in the social media.

Addressing a press meet in Nowboicha on Tuesday night, the Congress candidate refuted the claim made in that video terming it to be a very execrable and vile act to malign his image in the public domain on the eve of the poll.

“The video is the work of the most vile and execrable act of people who are scared of my popularity and they made it to publicly malign my image. It is a work of deep fake where the differences in backgrounds of two images are visible”, said Hazarika.

The Congress candidate further alleged that the deep fake video was the work of an ex-MP and a current MLA.

Hazarika also alleged that sitting Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka had approached him in a bid to refrain him from the electoral process.

“Manab Deka called on me and requested to speak on the phone to the Chief Minister on April 11. He said that the CM would make me a chairman and bear my poll expenses if I dropped myself from the polling fray. MLA Deka also threatened me of a video to be circulated if I did not comply”, claimed Hazarika.

Hazarika also said that voters of Lakhimpur HPC would give a befitting reply to these false accusations on poll day on April 19.
