Housewife shot, two councillors injured in Manipur

Imphal: In two separate incidents, a 41-year-old housewife was injured after being shot by miscreants and two Municipal councillors were found with injuries caused by unknown men.

All of them were attacked near an oil pump in the southern Bishnupur district of Manipur on Tuesday night, the police said on Wednesday.

Umarani @ Bulli, 41, a resident of  Kwakta Ward number 8 and wife of one  Md Sirauddin,44, was found lying with a bullet injury on Tuesday at around 8 pm.

She sustained a bullet injury on her right leg when armed miscreants shot her at a culvert near M/s Kaoba Oil pump, Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou under the Phubakchao Ithai police station in Bishnupur district, the police said.

A few distances away from the incident site, the police said that two councillors of the Kwakta Municipal Council of Bishnupur district were also found lying unconscious with severe injuries on their bodies.

The councillors were later identified as Md Abdul Karim @ Abba, 44, and  Md Nasiruddin, 46.

While the bullet-injured woman was rushed to a hospital in Imphal after giving first aid at Bishnupur district hospital, the injured councillors were rushed to the same district hospital for medical treatments.

No group or outfit claims responsibility for the incidents so far.

Police said a case has been registered in this regard and investigations are on.
