Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the BJP-led NDA coalition would win at least 90 seats in the 2026 assembly elections.

Speaking to the media, Sarma claimed that BJP and its allies have set a target of securing 90-100 seats in the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly.

In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the BJP contested 11 seats in Assam and won nine.

Its ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), contested two seats and won one, while the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) won the single seat it contested.

Out of Assam's 14 Lok Sabha constituencies, the Congress-led INDIA bloc secured three seats.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the BJP and its allies led in 93 assembly constituencies during the recent Lok Sabha elections, while the Congress-led alliance in 31 constituencies and the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) led in two.

Specifically, the BJP led in 76 seats, AGP in 10, and UPPL in seven.
