GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a swipe at senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, expressing his desire for the Wayanad MP to visit Assam and engage in election campaigning.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma suggested that if Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were to campaign in the state, more members of the grand-old party would likely defect to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“I welcome Rahul Gandhi to come to Assam and campaign. His presence will be advantageous for the BJP, leading to the exodus of numerous Congress members,” stated Assam CM and senior BJP leader from the Northeast, Himanta Biswa Sarma, during an address in Silchar.

Sarma pointed out that after Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Assam during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in January, numerous Congress leaders switched allegiance to the BJP.

“If he visits again, I won’t need to exert much effort, and many more will join us,” the Assam chief minister remarked.

Furthermore, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma likened the Congress party to “an outdated currency note”.

“Congress is more like an outdated currency note, which is no longer relevant,” said Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

He added: “Comparing Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is futile.”
