GUWAHATI: The Assam government has issued a "high alert" in all districts bordering Bangladesh in response to the recent turmoil in the neighboring country.

Districts in Assam, including Karimganj, Cachar, Dhubri, and South Salmara-Mankachar, which share a 267.5 km border with Bangladesh, have been instructed to remain vigilant.

"We have alerted all the border districts to be on high alert. We have asked the district commissioners and SPs to personally monitor the border situation," an official told PTI.

The heightened alert follows violent unrest in Bangladesh, culminating in the resignation and departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Border Security Force (BSF) has also issued a "high alert" along the entire 4096-km India-Bangladesh border in response to the developments.
