Who is the mastermind behind Zubeen Garg’s murder? Gaurav Gogoi questions Assam CM
Guwahati: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Gaurav Gogoi on Monday questioned the identity of the “real mastermind” behind singer Zubeen Garg’s murder, saying the names mentioned in the Assembly only point to the killers, not those directing them.
Speaking to the media at Bishwanath Chariali, Gogoi accused Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of using the case to create confusion among the public. “People in Assam’s villages have lost faith that Zubeen Garg will ever get justice,” he said.
Gogoi also dismissed the Chief Minister’s claims of a Pakistan link, saying Sarma had failed to release the SIT report even after promising to do so on September 10, when Zubeen-da was still alive. “Even members of his own party feel embarrassed by these misleading statements,” Gogoi added.
The APCC chief alleged that Sarma is trying to manipulate Assam’s voter lists by bringing BJP supporters from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh ahead of the next Assembly elections. He warned that a rebellion has already begun across communities, urban youth, and local mothers, and urged opposition parties and citizens to stay alert against attempts to infiltrate Assam’s voter list.
At a district booth committee meeting in Bishwanath Chariali, former APCC President Ripun Bora said the BJP has done little for Assam’s development over the last ten years and is now trying to polarise voters on Hindu-Muslim lines.
Former President Bhupen Bora highlighted Assam’s inclusive heritage, citing Chaolung Sukapha, Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Bhupen Hazarika, and Zubeen Garg. He said the BJP cannot divide Assam or its people, even as it attempts to exploit Zubeen Garg’s final moments.
