Guwahati airport terminal ready ahead of PM Modi visit: Assam CM
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said the new Guwahati airport terminal is ready ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit beginning December 20.
Modi will inaugurate the new terminal during his two-day visit to Assam, Sarma confirmed.
Highlighting its indigenous design, Sarma said the terminal reflects Assam’s cultural identity and focus on sustainable architecture.
“The terminal is almost finished. It has been built using bamboo and foxtail orchids. It is very beautiful,” Sarma said in Lumding.
Official sources said the Bamboo Orchids Terminal can handle 13.1 million passengers annually.
They said the new terminal will boost connectivity between Northeast India and Southeast Asia.
The terminal will also bring major improvements in cargo movement with state-of-the-art processing facilities.
Sarma said Modi will attend several official programmes after inaugurating the terminal.
On December 21, the Prime Minister will visit Namrup, the BJP headquarters, and the martyrs’ memorial.
Responding to Congress allegations of vote theft, Sarma dismissed the claims as illogical. He said Congress has booth-level agents across Assam, making vote theft allegations baseless.
Sarma also spoke about election preparations, saying groundwork is nearing completion.
“The work is almost finished, candidates are almost finalised, and alliances are also ready. Women and promising youth will be given more opportunities, and their representation will increase,” he said.
